I have always thought of diversity as an object that everyone should own. I have seen in the past individuals who want to conform to the world in every which they can. By that they eliminate some of their own unique diversity.
I see diversity as essential. It is almost as essential as the air we breathe. If diversity was non-existent, then it would be incredibly difficult to distinguish one person from another. It would appear as though everyone was the exact same, in every way and form.
I never understood why individuals wanted to be exactly like everyone else. Where is the diversity? It is such a wonderful thing to have and yet it is almost as if no one seems to want it. It is like the most beautiful gift in the world, but instead of striving to get it, they go after the simple teddy bear. It never made since to me why people wanted so desperately to conform. Do not conform to the ways of this world. For many they have the mindset that they must fit-in. I hate it when people say they want to fit-in. To me it gets rather redundant.
One of the worst things that could happen when people try so hard to fit-in, is that they lose a bit of themselves in the process. When someone tries so hard to be something they are not, they forget who they really are. Unfortunately I have seen it happen. It takes a long time to remember who you are once you have lost your identity. I guess the battle to fit-in will always be a battle that people will go through. Sadly the person might not win no matter what direction they go in. That in itself is tragic.

Technology is the foundation for everything nowadays. It is rather unfortunate if you have someone who has never dealt with technology before. My parents, love them to death, but they are classic examples.
My father had never used a computer in his life until he left the Army and started working. Even still the tasks he had to do on it were rather simple. Then there came that time in his life where he needed to use a computer for more than just the simple stuff. Well let's just say it was not very pleasant. See, the task that he had to do on the computer was something for a new job and he was not able to do it, since he had no true experience with computers. But, as with everything else in life, it all came together in the end when he was taught how to complete the task by his lovely daughter who was at the time only 12 years old.
My mother is a different story. She has actually never had to use a computer. I honestly say that I do not remember a time when my mother has used a computer. If I were to hand her my laptop, she would have no idea what to do with it, much else know how to even turn it on.
I am glad that students are taught in school how to use different forms of technology. It will help them in the future when they come across a situation where technology would help get them out of it. But in a way technology is spoiling us. There is practically a robot for everything a person used to do on their own. Come to think of it, that might be pushing it a little, but at least one can get the idea.
I have often wondered if we as Americans rely on technology a little too much. We very seldom will do things the 'old fashioned way'. This can be a good or bad thing. If we get used to doing things strictly using technology and our technology fails, we may not know what to do. I believe that we should always know the 'old fashioned way' in the event that something happens. Shortcuts are great, but they will not always get you where you need to go.

I often find myself reflecting back on life. Sometimes life confuses me. I reflect on life's riches it has to offer. After all, sometimes there is so much hate in the world that one has to shift their thinking to something that does not contain negativity.
When you think about it, things that seem horrible really are not so bad. When you really go back and analyze or reflect on the situation you are then able to break things down and see that what you thought was horrible is not as worse as things could have been. As my grandmother always said, things could be worse.
People rarely take the chance to think about others instead of themselves. I had a cousin who always thought about how bad her life was. She was blindsided and never thought that there are people out there who's life far worse then hers. She thought that her life was horrible because she did not have the right shade of blond for her hair when really that person who is on the street is wondering why she was concerned with something as small and unimportant as hair color. It took my cousin a long time to reflect on what was truly important. She now understands that she is no where near as bad off as she had thought. Hopefully everyone can take the time to reflect on what truly matters, instead of the petty things that seem to be on a person's mind.

Ah philosophy. My philosophy has changed several times over the past years. I have had to truly reflect on what I want my philosophy to be.
I have several different views of a lot of things, but related to teaching I have been able to narrow it down. When you think about it, teaching is the basis of learning. Well, maybe that is self explanatory but nevertheless it is true. My goal is to teach as much as possible and not just related to school. I also want to teach my students about life.
One of the things that I simply cannot fathom is the fact that students feel as though they have to fit a mold to be somebody. I want to teach them otherwise. They do not need to feel inferior to anybody because everyone is equal. Equality needs to be accented more than it is. Students need to realize that they can be themselves and that is all they need to be. They do not need to be someone else because their own unique individuality is important. For the longest time I struggled with this but I have come out of thinking this way and moved on to thinking that the way that I am is the way that I should be and nothing more or nothing less. I want my students to learn this fact as well. Society is not showing the right example. I want to be there to teach them that they need to be exactly who they are. If I can show them that who they are is who they should always be, I will have succeeded in completing my philosophy.
